World Youth Day 2008, with several years in the planning and billed as the biggest event ever hosted in Australia, Jayline was proud to be awarded the contract to supply a large portion of Turf Protection Solutions to the World Youth Day Event, being held by the Catholic Church at Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney, Australia.

Over 400,000 pilgrims from 170 Nations, converged on Royal Randwick Racecourse for the World Youth Day's final event with music and dancing well into the early hours of the morning, along with a candlelight vigil on Saturday 19th and the final Mass celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI being held on Sunday 20th. Royal Randwick Racecourse experienced for the first time ever, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims camping out overnight in tents, sleeping bags and tarpaulins for this two day event.

This prestigious contract for 200,000m2 of Turf Protection (50 acres/20 hectares), the largest of its type ever completed in the World, with installation involving 200(+) contractors, took 7 days to install and removal 2.5 days.

Turf Protection was used to protect five grass tracks at Sydney's Major Horse Racing venue with the following products:

• Terraplas Turf Protection - for all heavy duty and roadway access
• Portapath Turf Protection - for all other coverage

Jayline worked very closely with the World Youth Day Co-ordination Authority - an independent Government Authority which had been established to oversee the success of this International Event, to ensure the successful completion of this major contract.
